Finley Melville Ives crowned freeski halfpipe world champion
New Zealander Finley Melville Ives has unfurled an explosive run in Switzerland to be crowned men's freeski halfpipe world champion. The Wanaka teenager said he was shocked after heading a 12-strong field in what was his debut appearance at a world championships. "Honestly, I am in shock. I can't believe I landed my run, I am so hyped," Melville Iles said.

Blind rower Toby Ireland's bold goal
16-year-old blind rower Toby Ireland's big goal is to reach the LA Olympic Games in 2028. Toby also has Hyperthymesia - the rare ability to recall nearly all past experiences. His dad Saul realised Toby's memory was different from a young age - and in particualr a moment when Toby recalled the order of 1,000 songs on his iPod. Toby's journey also includes outward bound, cross country and piano.

Two Wellington students honoured to represent New Zealand at science fair in US

16-year-old Casey Paul has never missed a day of school
Rotorua Girls' High School student Casey Paul has had a perfect attendance record since her first day of school at age five - even turning down a family trip to Hawaii to stay in class. She is determined to keep her record going in 2025. Paul said she did not know how she had managed to achieve such solid attendance saying "it just happened".

It's been a busy year for Lylah and Riley Wood, who have been busy practising for another rodeo season which hits its straps over the Christmas New Year holidays. Boys' 850km adventure a toast to the end of high school
Three school leavers from Tauranga have finished their final exams and with their newfound freedom, they have decided to race 850km across Aotearoa. But it's not the classic Te Araroa trail down the country's spine. They have come up with their own route - hiking, biking and kayaking east to west across the North Island. Named Cape to Cape, the mission was born when Olly Dow drew a massive line from East Cape to Taranaki.

Brooklyn Opetaia (Te Whānau-a-Kai) founded 'Words to Heal You' in 2021, originally as an Instagram account and a safe space to share her mental health journey through poetry. Since then, it has grown into something much larger: a safe space, a dream, and a movement, Opetaia said.

Kiwi Caitlin O'Reilly on becoming the youngest
As far as feats go, it's impressive and one that only 33 other people have managed to achieve. Twenty-year-old Kiwi swimmer Caitlin O'Reilly has become the youngest person ever to swim the Ocean's Seven - that is, the seven open water channel swims that are considered the equivalent of the Seven Summits mountaineering challenge. Caitlin logged her first swim of the Ocean's Seven, Cook Strait, at the age of just 12.
